The next 3 months at ABM promise to be both exciting and extremely busy as numerous milestones are passed at hyper speed.
Since moving into the new factory at Holmes Chapel in November ABM have built a world class team for R&D and the manufacture of bespoke battery tabs for pouch cells.
In July 2021 there was just a core of 4 directors with a vision and a plan of action. Today the vision has expanded, the first part of that plan has been implemented and the team has grown to 12 people, with a further 3 more to be recruited by the end of Q3.
The Engineering team have designed and built the engineering workshop and laboratory. The workshop is now fully equipped to support manufacturing & maintenance functions. At the same time the R&D team have specified and equipped the laboratory to provide a comprehensive quality testing platform to support both tab manufacture, R&D and incoming materials analysis.
The ABM engineering team have prepared the factory and installed the electrical infrastructure and power sources so that ABM can receive its first automatic high speed tab line for large format pouch cells. This will arrive by the end of July and be installed before the end of Q3. This will yield a capacity of 1 million tabs per year and this capacity will be doubled with the installation of the second machine by the end of 2022.
ABMs unique ability to produce battery tabs designed for purpose using European sourced raw materials has created excitement amongst ABM clients. There is unanimous recognition that ABMs UK location means a short lead time and short supply chain brings both security and minimised carbon generation into the competitive commercial offer. Further milestones will be passed as ABM becomes ready to fulfil those pre orders already placed and ready to respond to the demands for scale up as trial orders are approved.
This is just the start, machine and product innovation through R&D and skilled engineering will ensure that ABM will become a vital component in the European li ion battery supply chain and a world leader in battery component manufacture.
