When it comes to battery performance, the smallest details often carry the greatest weight. That’s especially true for battery tabs, the critical link between the cell and the outside world. They manage current flow, heat transfer, and mechanical connection, and a failure at this level can have serious consequences for the entire system.
That’s why, at Avocet Battery Materials, testing is built into everything we do.
Our Approach to Testing
Every batch of battery tabs we produce undergoes multiple stages of quality control to ensure consistency, accuracy, and reliability. We test for:
- Dimensional accuracy
- Material bonding integrity (especially for bimetallic tabs like Flyweight)
- Surface condition and weldability
- Edge finish and tapering, where required for sealing performance
- Mechanical strength, including pull testing where applicable
Our goal is to make sure that the tabs you receive meet your specifications and perform as expected during assembly and in operation.
Collaboration With Customers
We also work closely with customers during their own testing processes, from initial trials to validation stages and production ramp-up. We support this by:
- Providing tabs matched to their design and pack configuration
- Offering guidance on welding, sealing, and mechanical handling
- Making design changes based on real-world feedback and in-field test data
This two-way process helps shorten development timelines and reduce surprises during integration. We see testing not just as a quality check, but as a collaboration that leads to better outcomes.
Why It Matters
Battery packs are expected to perform in challenging environments, from high-current EV drivetrains to lightweight eVTOL designs. In these applications, there’s little room for uncertainty. By rigorously testing our battery tabs, and supporting our customers through their own validation processes, we help ensure safety, durability, and performance across the full lifecycle of the cell.
If you’re developing a new cell or pack design and need a tab supplier who understands the value of testing, both in-house and in partnership, we’d be glad to support your programme.
